COMMUNITY EVENTS

Earning your MBA or MPA in Sustainable Management means more than just fulfilling academic requirements. It’s also about taking part in the greater business and public affairs community. To that end, Presidio goes out of its way to conceive and present events that connects students, alumni and the broader Bay Area community with today’s sustainability innovators.

Presidio Presents Speaker Series

In 2011, Presidio Graduate School launched Presidio Presents, a speaker series that engages the entire Bay Area community. The series features world-class entrepreneurs at the leading edge of sustainability and social entrepreneurship in conversation with Presidio President and CEO, William Shutkin. The series is sponsored by Wilson, Sonsini, Goodrich, & Rosati, Jones Lange LaSalle, and Sustainable Industries.

There will be three Presidio Presents events in the 2012-2013 academic year. Tickets are free for Presidio students, alumni, and prospective students. General admission tickets are $10.

Community Events

Presidio Graduate School makes the most of those times when the student body comes together for monthly Residencies. On Saturday evenings during Residency weekends, the school hosts receptions, speakers, and other programs for current students and alumni to attend. These gatherings are not only an opportunity to broaden one’s knowledge of the sustainability community, but also to network and collaborate with other Presidians.

Brown Bags

Once a month, Presidio President and CEO, William Shutkin hosts an informal lunch program in conversation with an influential role model in the sustainability community. Brown Bags are open to all current students and alumni but limited to 30 attendees. These events are free, and all attending should bring their lunch – though they need not carry it in a brown bag.

Capstone Venture Showcase

At the end of each semester, Presidio Graduate School students enrolled in the Masters of Public Administration Capstone Policy Innovation and Masters of Business Administration Capstone Entrepreneurship courses refine and polish their capstone public policy innovations and social venture company ideas at the Presidio Capstone Showcase. As a part of the integrated and entrepreneurship-focused MPA and MBA Capstone Program, our students design and launch new social ventures, conceive and propose transformative public administration and public policy innovations, and collaborate on product design prototypes.

Our MBA and MPA Capstone teams often compete deep into major global business plan competitions; the Spring 2012 InFoods team won the top prize in the prestigious Madrona League Business Plan Competition, and members of that team have launched the venture as a going concern after their graduation.

Our Capstone Showcase is being sponsored by Allen Matkins Leck Gambie Mallory & Natsis LLP, a premier firm that focuses on real estate, litigation, labor, tax and business law. Our MPA and MBA Capstone students will have the chance to meet with potential investors, public policy leaders, and other key collaborators at a special reception at Allen Matkins’ downtown San Francisco offices as a part of this new sponsorship.
