Barrie is an associate professor of management and organization at Penn State University. Her teaching experience began as a trainer in a corporate setting; however when she began teaching undergraduate business students in 1991, at Towson University, her students confirmed that she had found her niche. One of Barrie’s personal teaching goals is to continue to demonstrate to graduate business students that they can do well by doing good. Her body of research reflects her interest in the role of business in society and in the ways that organizations and their members both create and respond to social justice issues. She has translated her passion for social justice into research questions that explore issues critical to business: why does injustice occur in organizations? What do organizations do that contributes to and/or constrains unjust and unethical behavior? How does injustice impact employees and their career goals? How do managers and entrepreneurs respond to issues in ways that promote justice and social responsibility? Barrie addresses aspects of these broad research questions through the lens of justice and fairness and its impact on employees. She has presented her research at more than twenty national and international conferences.
