The Presidio Graduate School is pleased to announce its launch of the Sports and Sustainability Certificate Program, the only MBA-level sustainability program focused exclusively on the sports industry. The curriculum is focused on providing sports industry professionals the skills and knowledge to successfully integrate sustainability into their business operations and to leverage the singular power of sports to help address today’s most pressing environmental and social challenges. Click here for schedule and logistics.
The intensive Sports and Sustainability Certificate curriculum is comprised of two courses:
(2) The Business of Sports and Sustainability.
The Certificate curriculum teaches students how to incorporate ecologically and socially preferable and cost-competitive practices into venue and team operations, procurement, sponsor relations and fan engagement, while also helping them learn about enhancing the eco- and social-market value of a company’s brand. In addition, students will develop skills to implement best practices, focusing on areas that include:
Energy efficiency and water conservation; Ecologically preferable purchasing; Composting and zero waste management; Safer chemicals; Transportation; Healthy food options; Concessionaire relations; and, Fan engagement.
Students successfully completing the Certificate program will gain a deep understanding of sustainability frameworks and a detailed knowledge of the best practices relevant for today’s sports business and policy leaders.
Students may also take the Business of Sports and Sustainability course alone, without earning a Certificate.
The Presidio Sports and Sustainability Certificate Program is being offered in affiliation with the Green Sports Alliance and is taught by Presidio faculty along with professionals working in the sports industry who are leading the sports greening movement from within the industry, including stadium and arena operators, league and team officials, vendors and sponsors. The Sports and Sustainability Certificate Program is directed by Dr. Allen Hershkowitz, Ph.D., Senior Scientist at the Natural Resources Defense Council and Founder and Director of NRDC’s Sports Greening Project.
In addition to a Certificate issued by Presidio Graduate School, participants will receive transferrable course credit and their certification will appear on an official transcript from Alliant International University.
Alumni are eligible to take Certificate coursework for a reduced fee, and receive a Certificate. However, Certification will not appear on the transcript of alumni taking advantage of discounted tuition. Click here for more information or inquire with the Associate Registrar Isa Dyer.
